Network

If you were asked to name the top 3 characteristics that are shared by all really successful people, almost everyone's list would have to include the "ability to network." Most truly successful people would say, "I could lose all my money and all my business ventures, but leave me my contacts, and I'll have something going as big as ever in only a few years."

Let's take the letters of the word NETWORK to help us organize our contacts and build a great Xyngular network.

N is for getting to know the Needs of those around you and helping them out whenever you can. Watch Facebook and Linkedin for needs people are talking about. Offer help and advice. Don't just talk business all the time. Learn about your contacts' families, pets, hobbies, and interests. Keep notes. Be human.
E is for Exchanging your network with others. When you exchange a dollar for an item, things don't multiply much. But when you exchange networks, both of you have access to two networks.

T is for the Telephone. Landline, cell, Internet—this is undoubtedly the most critical tool for staying in touch with your network. Make networking calls constantly. Never pass up an opportunity to make a call and help someone out or brighten someone's day.

W is not just who you know, it's who knows you? Make yourself visible in your community and you'll grow your network. They say there's never more than six degrees of separation between you and those people you want to know. The more people who know you, the degrees of separation decrease.

O is for being more Outgoing. Be the first in any group to introduce yourself, help someone out, or give a compliment. Make it a game. Smile at everyone. You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to network when you're outgoing.

R is for Reciprocity. When you give, you will get. When you don't, you won't. If you only give business and do business with people you know and like, you won't grow your network very fast. Networking clubs are great places to give and get. Never be slow to answer a call for help, even when you think you'll never be repaid. Go the extra mile.

K is for Keeping in touch. If your network is going to work, you have to stay plugged in and keep the wires humming. Keep up on birthdays and special dates with your favorite contact management system. Make it a goal to get in touch with everyone in your network at least once a year. As Harvey Mackay says, "You don't have to know everything as long as you know the people who do."

ACTION STEPS:
1. Get more involved in the most valuable and time-saving features of Facebook and LinkedIn.
2. Set aside time each day for a little networking on the phone.
3. Get yourself a contact management system and use it.
4. Participate in a networking group of some type.
